Pinay's short story "When the Night Comes" tells a chilling residential school narrative. Written from the point of view of a clock, the tragic story unfolds as it describes what is witnessed during the midnight hours of a residential school dormitory. Pinay's sobering account reminds readers of Canada's dark past and the continued work needed to learn the truth, so we can move toward reconciliation.
Pinay's poignant and gripping piece of fiction has earned her the Jerrett Enns Award for Prose and will be published in Windscript magazine in June 2025. The award, which recognizes a high school student for excellence in poetry and prose writing, is named in honour of Victor Jerrett Enns, who was the Executive Director of the Saskatchewan's Writers' Guild from 1982 to 1988.
