Broadview School Receives Mosaic School Nutrition Grant

Broadview will be one of ten Saskatchewan schools to receive $15,000 to support student nutrition.

“We are grateful to have received these funds from the Mosaic Nutrition Challenge and are excited to get our projects started,” Broadview School principal Kayla Vargo said.

“This grant will allow us to develop curricular and extracurricular programs to teach our students about sustainable food practices through raised garden beds, tower gardening and canning and preserving projects. We are also thrilled for the opportunity to bring in local Knowledge Carriers to share recipes and traditions to tie in Indigenous ways of food preparation,” Vargo continued.

The school also plans to have middle years students take food safe handling courses to be able to help prepare snacks and provide nutrition fact sharing with the school.

Th Mosaic School Nutrition Grant program began in 2006 to encourage grassroots initiatives to help improve student nutrition.
